New FT450, FT500, FT500LITE, FT550, FT600 v4.2 Update!

May 24, 2019

Follow the steps below to update the ECU:

Step 1 - Before updating the ECU, back up the maps and logs in the ECU: It's recommended to back up all the important maps and logs contained in the FT450, FT500, FT500LITE, FT550 or FT600. The update won't delete the maps but will delete the logs.

Step 2 - Download version 4.2 of FTManager: Download the new version in the "Software> FTManager" menu at FuelTech site or CLICK HERE to visit the software page.

Step 3:
Open the FTManager software and plug the USB cable into the ECU, click in "Tools" tab and then the icon "ECU Updater".

4.2 Update - New Features

Click on "+" and check out all the details of the new functions

Closed loop variable camshaft (VVT)

Closed loop variable camshaft (VVT): This feature enables programmable control for the advance and retard of camshaft position to ensure optimal performance across different loads and RPM ranges. It can control up to 4 camshafts (2 intake and 2 exhaust - for FT500 / FT500LITE, FT550 and FT600) and 2 camshafts (1 intake and 1 exhaust - for FT450).

    • FT500, FT550, FT600
      • 2 intake camshafts
      • 2 exhaust camshafts
    • FT450
      • 1 intake camshaft
      • 1 exhaust camshaft

Signal Decoder:
this function automatically reads the camshaft teeth wheel and creates a pattern on the screen, allowing you to select which tooth and signal edge will be used for synchronization with the cam sync signal. This signal analysis can only be performed with the engine running.

  • Separate target tables for each camshaft

  • The previous variable camshaft control is now named “Variable camshaft (VTEC)”

Diagnostic Panel

Diagnostic Panel:

  • Redesigned menu with separate pages for direct access to different sections: *

  • New diagnostic page with minimum and maximum values attained*

*This feature is available in the following ECUs: FT450, FT550 and FT600.

New feature “Throttle Blip” or “Heel and Toe”

“Throttle Blip” or “Heel and Toe": This function blips the electronic throttle whenever a downshift is performed in order make the shift smoother.

Throttle percentage added on gear shift: Throttle value that is going to be added to the actual throttle position whenever the Throttle blip feature is activated, and a gear shift is detected.

Throttle blip duration: Duration in milliseconds of the throttle blip. The throttle percentage will be added to the current throttle position for the amount of time set in this parameter, even if the input stays activated for more than this time.

Throttle blip activation mode: Set how the throttle blip signal will be sent to the ECU: through FTCAN 2.0 network using the Fueltech SwitchPanel or through a white input

Button activation mode: Choose whether to activate the function by 0V (ground) or (12V) positive.

NOTE: This feature has been developed to work with an external sequential shift control module with electric or pneumatic actuator with a specific blip control output. The use of this feature on street cars without this type of controller requires connection with external relay and brake and clutch signals to activate the blip during gearshifts.

Progressive nitrous control #2

Progressive nitrous control #2: second progressive nitrous control added with same settings and functionalities as the first one, now it’s possible to use 2 progressive nitrous stages.

Wastegate boost pressure control

Wastegate boost pressure control: New type of control for the Wastegate boost pressure control feature: by reference wheel speed.

Dual Electronic Throttle bodies

Dual Electronic Throttle bodies: FT500, FT550 and FT600 can now control engines using dual Electronic Throttle bodies.

Gear Shift Output

Gear Shift Output: is now compatible with Liberty transmissions, allows you to use a solenoid for each gear.

Cam sync signal

Cam sync signal:

  • Improved reading of multi-teeth cam sync
  • Menus for RPM signal and cam sync signal have been separated for a broader and clearer view and understanding
  • The RPM sensor type option “VR internal reference” now has a “not recommended” warning, both on FTManager and on the ECU display

Cam Sync Wheel Decoder: this function automatically reads the camshaft teeth wheel and creates a pattern on the screen, allowing you to select which tooth and signal edge will be used for synchronization with the cam sync signal. This signal analysis can only be performed with the engine running.

Acceleration fuel enrichment

Acceleration fuel enrichment: Now it’s possible to set a minimum TPS/MAP variation for Acceleration fuel enrichment and decay.

General improvements

Improved Driveshaft input signal readings (WARNING: these changes will drastically affect how signals are read, especially in the first few feet after launch, double check Time based driveshaft compensations after this update).

O2 Closed Loop
: When the settings are changed from “Custom” back to “Default”, the standard PID values set back to default.

Some definitions in Advanced map options have changed:

  • Fuel and ignition Maps: Line or Table
  • Pins assignment mode: Automatic or Manual
  • Angles assignment mode: Default or Custom

Some definitions in Advanced map options have changed:

    • Fuel and ignition Maps: Line or Table
    • Pins assignment mode: Automatic or Manual
    • Angles assignment mode: Default or Custom

Transbrake
: Added a secondary Transbrake solenoid output to be used with liberty transmissions. This output is activated during 2-step to disengage the transmission and allow the first or reverse gear to be used.

Duty cycle channels:
of each cylinder have been added to CAN bus.

Thermatic:
Thermatic Fan 2 output can now be activated at 12V.

Power shift:
can now be blocked for a certain period of time after a validated launch.

FTManager

    • The screen for Time based compensations will now use the same smoothness settings as set in datalogger options
    • The screen for Time based compensations will now use the same background color for the channel box (black or white) depending on what is set in the datalogger settings
    • Now all forms of gear change detection can be used for the “Gear shift output”
    • The checkbox for “closed-loop power reduction” will only be disabled if “gear change detection” is not enabled
    • Wheelie control editing restrictions fixed

FTDatalogger

    • New feature that allows a shock travel sensor position to be calibrated/zeroed in a LOG
    • Added an icon to easily reset the log display settings (like channel colors and visibility) according to map settings
    • Now it’s possible to change all the colors from a single group at once
    • Added “N” and “R” to the gear channel in the datalogger

Practice tree game:
Improvements in the Practice tree game

New input channel “Flywheel RPM (Clutch basket)”: used primarily on motorcycles that have a gear ratio between the crankshaft and the input shaft/clutch basket.

OEM CAN compatibility: added compatibility with 2010 Camaro

Generic duty cycle output: the output is now activated during engine start, making it possible to be used to control fuel pumps with PWM control

General corrections

- Corrections in the FT450 datalogger that could show up errors in the readings.

- Corrected the splash screen error in the FT450, where it could be set back to default when datalogger memory was erased.

- Corrected the RPM signal wires showing up wrong in the wiring harness diagram inside FTManager.

-
Warning about trying to update an already up to date FTManager.

- Corrected the distance math channel when the unit is in feet hermatic Fan 2 output can now be activated at 12V.

- Fuel injection times are now updated after touching “stop engine” now be blocked for a certain period of time after a validated launch.

- Fixed an error in the FT450 on the gray outputs 3 and 4, where anything assigned to them through the display was not being saved in the memory and it was reset after restarting the ECU.

- Progressive nitrous features now use traction wheel speed in cases where there are no reference wheel speed sensors available.

WINDOWS DEFENDER SMARTSCREEN WARNING MESSAGE

After executing the program, Windows Defender SmartScreen may display a warning message when installing FT Manager.
