Setting up a missing trigger tooth wheel is important in ensuring accurate engine timing and smooth operation for high-performance vehicles. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through the process of configuring the missing tooth wheel in FTManager tuning software, enabling precise control over your ignition timing and improving overall engine efficiency. Whether you’re a seasoned tuner or a first-time installer, this step-by-step tutorial will help you avoid common pitfalls and achieve optimal results.
PRODUCTS YOU WILL NEED:
1. Your engine will need to be at the top of the compression stroke. Tip: Place your finger or thumb on the spark plug hole for cylinder #1 and run your piston up to top dead center. If you feel the air being pushed out, you are on the top of the compression stroke.
2. Rotate the engine counterclockwise until the magnet/tooth that is just before the missing magnet/tooth is lined up with your crank trigger sensor.
3. Check your timing pointer to determine the crank index position and enter that information in the "Crank Index Position (Degrees)" field in FTManager.
- RPM Signal settings are located on the Quick Access Panel under Engine Settings.
4. Next, you will need to index your CAM Sync sensor.
4A. To begin, place your engine at the top of the compression stroke, cylinder 1 top dead center (see step 1).
4B. Rotate the engine counterclockwise to 90 degrees BEFORE top dead center.
4C. Install your Cam Sync Sensor.
4D. Align the Cam Sync Sensor with the magnet or tooth.
5. Enter 90 degrees in the "Cam Sync Position Angle" field in the FTManager software.
- Select "Cam Sync Signal" located on the Quick Access Panel under Engine Settings.
6. You are now ready to start the engine and check the timing with a timing light.
7. With the engine running, click "Ignition Calibration" located in the header menu in the FTManager software.
8. A small pop-up window will appear, showing your index position and a locked timing value of 20 degrees.
9. Use the Plus and Minus buttons to adjust the index position until the actual timing matches 20 degrees on the timing light to complete the set up.
